Behind the Lens

My name is Steve, and I’m a New England based photographer. I generally shoot digital, black and white street and documentary photography. I’ve recently added a 35mm film camera to my kit and I’m excited to get some of those shots up here as well once they are finished developing.

My love of photography is a thing that happened accidentally and started years ago when I took an intro to photography course in college. I borrowed a cheap camera from a friend that I carried around everywhere while figuring out the basics of exposure and composition. Years later I found myself traveling around the country after Covid-19 cooled down a bit and brought a camera along to document the trip. The turning point for me was spending a few days in New Orleans, capturing the chaos that is the French Quarter’s night life. I spent hours walking around the city and capturing moments of people going about their lives. I learned later that this is called street photography and is a common style of shooting especially for people who live in large urban areas. After returning home from the trip I spent as much time as I could going out and shooting anything that caught my eye. Over the past year I have been attending various protests in my area to shoot as an objective observer.

I have a few of my current projects, as well as some other shots that I like but don’t fit in any particular category, listed under the ‘Projects’ tab above. If you would like a copy/print of a shot feel free to reach out in the ‘Contact’ section.
